The shortlist for the 2011 Australian Music Prize is out, with nine artists battling it out for the grand prize of $30,000.
Every year, artists covering all genres of music in Australia are invited to submit their records for consideration, and are judged by an extensive panel of music experts. Last year, Sydney indie kids Cloud Control took home the gong for their debut album, Bliss Release.
The nominations for the 2011 prize were announced today and include some of the most successful Australian artists of the moment, so it's bound to be a close competition worth watching.
Here they are:
Abbe May - Design Desire Adalita - Adalita
Boy and Bear - Moonfire
Gotye - Making Mirrors
Gurrumul - Rrakala Jack Ladder and the Dreamlanders - Hurtsville The Jezabels - Prisoner Kimbra (pictured) - Vows The Middle East - I Want That You Are Always Happy
The winner will be announced on March 8, with special international guest speaker David Fricke, senior editor for Rolling Stone.
