Adele breaks silence as she hits 10 million album sales in US

To celebrate breaking the 10 million mark in the US, Adele has tweeted to thank her fans, quoting Rihanna along the way.

Adele's mammoth album 21 has now sold over 10 million albums in the US alone, with 25 million sold worldwide.

The album features huge singles including "Someone Like You" and "Rolling In The Deep", and though it was released in 2011, its ongoing popularity means that 24-year-old Adele continues to smash records.

The singer and new mother wrote on Twitter, "Shine bright like a diamond!" US fans, we just hit 10 million copies over on your side of the pond! Thanks :) xx."

Adele has largely been out of the spotlight since her baby boy was born several months ago. The tweet was her first in close to two months.
