ANZAC weekend - what's going down?

It’s the ANZAC Day long weekend and if you’re not heading away you’ll need something to do in Brissie.

Salute the diggers:

On Saturday from 5.30pm, there’s a free RSL ANZAC Eve concert with Queensland Symphony Orchestra at the Suncorp Piazza at South Bank.

Sunday, set the alarm clock nice and early for the dawn service. It kicks off at 4.28am at the Shrine of Remembrance in ANZAC Square in Adelaide St.

Or get started a bit later and see the ANZAC Day march which starts at George St at 10am. It runs till 1pm and vantage points are on George St, Adelaide St, in King George Square, Creek St and Queen St.

Hit the shops:

Sunday - you’ll have to stick to online shopping because most of the major shopping centres and city stores are closed.

Monday - you can search for a bargain because the majority of major centres are open from 10-4pm; most of the city stores are open from 10.30am – 4pm and the DFOs are open from 10am – 6pm.

Some that are a bit different on Monday are these:
Brookside 9am – 4pm
Indooroopilly, Westfield Carindale and Westfield Garden City 10am – 5pm
Toowong 9.30am – 5.30pm
Morayfield 10am - 3.30pm

Movies:

On Sunday the cinemas open at 1.30pm.. so no morning sessions of Hot Tub Time Machine!

Pubs n clubs:

Clubs will shut early (midnight) on Saturday night.

Then on Sunday, you can grab a beer at the pub or bottleshop from 1pm (although service clubs might be open earlier).

Gigs:

Friday - Check out the ‘Broken Leg’ boys from Bluejuice at the HiFi Bar

Saturday – Hit the ramps (or maybe just watch), it’s the PCYC Open Day and Skate Comp at Mt Gravatt

Sunday – See quirky fave Regina Spektor at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre or Jeff Martin from the Tea Party at the HiFi
