When the Broncos took on Canberra in round two of the NRL, memories of last year's 56-0 flogging by the Raiders surfaced early on.
But a very different Broncos side emerged from halftime to take the game from 18-0 down to 18-14 in the first 20 minutes of the second half.
Two tries to Israel Folau and one to Ben Te'o had the Broncos looking good for a surprise win.. but it wasn't enough.
In the tough last 10 minutes of the game it looked like neither team would score.
Then in the final seconds young Canberra halfback Josh McCrone went over to seal the win for the Raiders.
Full credit to Sam Thaiday who played out of his skin and was everywhere for the Broncos.
He made 27 tackles and 195 metres off 27 hit ups and took intercepts.
Slammin' Sam played one of those rare games where a player from the losing side deserved to get Man of the Match.
The Brisbane Broncos next game is Sunday afternoon against the New Zealand Warriors at Suncorp Stadium.
