Noah Beresin from Chiddy Bang is enjoying his first day off in a while. Just as his hip hop duo was plucked from the obscurity of the college party scene, the same thing keeps happening each time the group touches something new.
From recordings to remixes to live shows, there is not much which goes unnoticed by a wider audience now.
And, for the record, the band is looking forward to Parklife 2010. But they all say that, right? However, Chiddy Bang has something that makes the anticipation all the more infectious - Platinum sales in Australia for the band's MGMT-sampling hit "Opposite of Adults".
And it's not like Australia has followed some worldwide phenomenon. Sure the single has struck a chord but it's hardly the new "Sex on Fire".
"We've never gone Platinum anwhere," Beresin laughs. "So obviously I've never been to a country that where we've gone Platinum so this is going to be a first for us. I knew it was going well but it's not like it was #1 in the US or anything. So that fact that it went Platinum in Australia is something we're super siked on and super proud because for us, to hear that, it makes Australia this golden light at the end of our tunnel. We've never been there either so we're looking forward to sitting on a beach somewhere and drinking wine."

It sounds like a fitting end-to-a-chapter for a band at the end of a record run. But for Chiddy Bang, the little wine-fuelled getaway is coming in the middle of the current wave. Or, perhaps it's the start. The band is still yet to release that debut record which has been pushed back to 2011 now. Although, it does seem like we've been hearing that name, The Swelly Life for a while now.
Instead, the band has just announced a mini-album, The Preview, will drop in the middle of the Parklife tour.
“The main purpose of this release is to give our fans some new music whilst we finish recording our debut album, Swelly Life," Beresin says. "It’s called The Preview because it gives listeners a glimpse of what's to come on Swelly. Preview is for riding around in your car and the album is for stadiums. It will be 100 percent new songs. We're just taking it to the next level with guitars and tape machines and basically making the craziest music we can."
There's something in his voice that makes such grand statements feel so believable. It especially makes sense when digesting the fact Chiddy Bang is now at the top of the pile of hip hop tastemakers. The samples will be easier to get and more people will be waiting to hear just what kind of twisted beat or loop will come next.
"Sometimes I have nothing and sometimes I have a whole track," Beresin says of his creative process. "With "Kids" (the sample used in "Opposite of Adults") I had nothing. I downloaded that mp3 from iTunes. If you listen to it closely you can hear my friends sitting around clapping and laughing in the background. They were all there."
It was just a bunch of friends, bored in a basement, waiting to see if the finished product was the soundtrack to their next good party. Now the party-starters of the world are doing the same thing.
