It’s a three cook race to the Masterchef finish line after Dani was eliminated Tuesday night leaving Michael, Alana and Kate to fight for the title.
The 25-year-old was shown the door after an epic three hour cook-off that had the final four contestants create their ‘food autobiography’. In a three course marathon the dishes needed to show their childhood, formative years and where they are now.
Carefully selecting her dishes, Dani chose a sweetcorn veloute with crab dumplings, braised pork belly with Vietnamese scallop salad, and banana fritter with black sesame ice cream.
While the Melbourne publicist started off strong her issues with time management lead to her unraveling. In a string of events Dani overcooked her soup, her oil wasn’t hot enough for her banana fritters and by not allowing enough time she was forced to put the entire tub of ice-cream on her plate.
While it wasn’t the complexity of the dishes that lead to her elimination, It was a case of taking too much on says Dani. “I spent the last half an hour thinking there was no way I could pull it all together and by the end of the challenge I knew I was gone – I had taken on too much yet not done enough.”
While the standard of food across the board was extremely high, Dani’s dishes just didn’t meet the others and was eliminated from the competition.
“I’m really sad, but at the same time so proud of myself to get this far,” says Dani. “To know that I pushed myself, believed in myself and made it until the finals week is really satisfying. I have so many happy memories and I’ve found the experience exhilarating, overwhelming and fun.”
Falling short of the top three, Dani is back home in Melbourne with her boyfriend and is assessing her career options determined to make her mark on the food industry.
With Dani out the way, Michael, Alana and Kate are left to cook it out for the covered trophy in the final days of the Masterchef competition.
