The rumours started flying when Grohl made some comments on stage at a recent music festival in New York City.
Grohl said at the Central Park show, "Without making a big deal out of it, we don't have any shows after this. This is it, man.
"Honestly I don't know when we're gonna do it again…and this is the perfect place to do it."
He has now taken to the band's Facebook page to clarify the comments, writing, "Yes… I was serious. I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It’s one of the reasons we’re still here. Make sense? I never want to Not be in this band. So, sometimes it’s good to just… put it back in the garage for a while…”
Grohl also wrote that he "can't give up this band, and I never will" - so it's not goodbye for the Fooies, just "see ya later" for a while.
