While Drake's mentor may have always been Lil' Wayne, the upcoming rapper may never follow in the footsteps of Wayne's massive one-million-records-in-the-first-week moment.
But he's still had a good crack at it with the rapper's debut studio album easily hitting the number one stop on the Billboard 200 chart in the US. The record just fell short of the half-million with sales of nearly 447,000.
Not bad in today's CD-buying environment.
It was good enough to earn Drake the third-best chart debut of 2010 (behind Lady Antebellum and Sade). The next spot on the chart went to veteran rock act Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, who fell far behind at just 125,000. Fellow Canadian Sarah McLachlan took third with 94,000 in sales.
We'll mention the fourth slot, a Now 34 compilation, which sold 88,000. Only because that means Drake sold more than the rest of the top five combined.
