He wasn’t lying after all – Ed Kavalee’s bleached blonde hair really is for a movie role.
Hughesy and Kate’s Nova 100 co-host has revealed he has a small role in the first Working Dog movie since ‘The Dish’ was released more than ten years ago.
“I play an old school friend of Josh (Lawson)’s who has a sporting bent so like a lot of Australian sportsmen he’s chosen to dye his hair blonde,” Kavalee told novafm.com.au
“Hopefully next week it can go back to brown and I will get less abuse on the street and people can find me unattractive just for my regular face.”
The Working Dog crew are Rob Sitch, Tom Gleisner and Santo Cilauro who are also responsible for Australia’s favourite movie, The Castle, plus hugely successful TV shows including Thank God You’re Here and The Panel.
The famous trio wrote the script for the as yet untitled movie which is understood to centre around three men having the time of their lives and star Lawson, Rachael Taylor, Felicity Ward, Lachy Hulme, and former Home and Away stars Jodi Gordon and Christian Clarke.
Gleisner told Hughesy and Kate on Nova 100 this morning they were enjoying being back on the movie set.
“We’ve had to remember how to make one of these things,” Gleisner said. “Once you start doing it again you realise ‘oh this is kind of good fun’ but (there’s been) a few late nights so it will be nice when we wrap.”
“Is it a comedy”, Kate asked.
“I hope so, or a dark drama depending on how the test screenings go,” Gleisner joked!
Kavalee said he wasn’t guaranteeing anyone he would actually end up in the movie but was loving the chance to be part of it.
“I’m in there I think. It’s a small part but we’ll see, you never count your chickens until you’re actually watching it on screen,” Kavalee said.
“I’ve worked with those (Working Dog) guys a few times and they’re legends, they write funny stuff and I reckon this should probably be a winner.
“It’s good to hang out with everyone. Josh (Lawson) is a mate and I’ve got other mates in it as well so it’s just stand around having fun.“
Gleisner sounded confident that the movie would be released next year.
