Skirts get shorter as hemlines go up and up. Everyone knows that. You’ve heard it from your Grandma one-thousand times. Yawn. But have you noticed the new state of dressing (as in, the opposite of undressing)?
It’s buttons up, me hearties!
Let’s call it the Mad Men Syndrome and blame it on those curves, those spectacular Christina Hendricks curves. Or, perhaps it’s that inside every woman lies the desire to just dress up, kick back with a cucumber sandwich, and be one of the "ladies who lunch".
Whatever the reason, fashion looking to the '50s for inspiration this season, with the rise and rise of preppy chic.
Kate Sylvester had it in spades during the Sydney Fashion Festival, with A-line skirts, cute cardigans and button-up removable collars (pictured).
And Jessica Alba has been spotted wearing the soles out of her loafers - the shoe du jour right now. That's right, better than brogues!
I swear I’ve seen more top buttons buttoned and Peter Pan collars walking down Brunswick Street lately, than in my Year 12 school photo. And there were 500 of us!
Couple it with fashion’s current fondness for over-sized specs and you’ve got yourself a complete preppy look that’s straight from the pages of any '60s yearbook.
It’s cute AND kitch...so in other words, enjoy it while it lasts.
