Nicole Thompson, Senior MAC makeup artist chatted to Fashionova recently at the MAC product season launch. Sacha French, Breakie Producer and Fashionova's Stacey Lewis went along to try and learn a thing or two. Most impressed with Nicole's patience, bubbly personality and amazing understanding of the MAC product, we thought we would ask her a few questions that Nova peeps would wanna know:
1. Tell us about colorings that you expect to be big for Autumn / Winter this year?
The world wants colour! Now is the time to play and have fun with your look. There is a definite trends of bright colours applied is washes to create almost a stained glass make-up. Using soft brushes to build up colour slowly on either the cheeks, lips or eyes – pick one feature and make that the focus! We will be seeing lots of Purples, Pinks, Peaches with splashes of gold’s.
2. What is the best tip you can give to change a look from day to night?
If in doubt add Black or gloss! Black kohl pencil drawn onto the waterline of the eye creates instant drama to any eye make-up no matter what colour. If you want some extra drama, smudge the pencil onto your eye lid!
Gloss equals glamour. Full stop. Add it to your lipstick to make the colour pop, slick it onto naked lips to have them glistening or pat it onto your cheeks and eyes for a summery sparkle!
3. What size MAC eyelashes are appropriate for day wear?
Half Lashes are great for day time - they are much more natural and are the easiest to apply! (M•A•C #20 Lashes) are made up of fine natural fibres that sit really well into the roots of the lash.
4. Tell us about a day in the life of you…
That is a question with many answers! The great thing about my job is that it constantly changes from day to day. I could doing Make-up for a Fashion Shoot, testing products, presenting trends, doing interviews or teaching a Masterclass – whatever the Make-up world brings!
5. What is currently in your handbag?
A rather large make-up bag, Make-up brushes, my blackberry, wallet, perfume, mints, sunglasses, nail polish, the book “Hurry up and meditate” and the new Harpers Bazaar magazine – I didn’t say it wasn’t heavy!
6. Your favourite MAC product at the moment?
Definitely M•A•C Fix Plus Spray – I will not do a make-up without it! It is a hydrating aqua spritz of vitamins and minerals that the skin just drinks up! I spray it on the skin first to freshen, I will spray it before foundation to help for a smoother application and I will finish the make-up with a spray! It is the key to the hydra-luminous skin that is always in fashion!
7. Your favourite product of the moment that isn’t MAC?
I have a fabulous sponge called the “Beauty Blender” it is in the shape of an egg which leaves no marks in your foundation and blends beautifully.for your make up to not run from the heat?
8. Is there such thing as make up that stays on your face and not on your clothes? Any tips on how to achieve this? (question from the Nova girls)
Get yourself a water proof foundation! M•A•C Face and Body Make-up is waterproof and stays put. When applying your foundation go lightly with your application when you get the jaw line. Use your hands to blend the colour down onto the neck, blending it in well. Then finish with a powder to set and hopefully stay off your clothes!
