With the final installment in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy in cinemas at the moment, Warner Bros. have attached the first teaser trailer for next year’s Superman reboot Man Of Steel…and it looks like it might fill the void of the bat. What we knew already was that this new take on Superman was to be produced and “mentored” by Nolan, but what we didn’t know was just how different it would look to all other versions of Superman that came before it. From the very first shot of the teaser trailer, it’s obvious Man Of Steel is going the way of Batman Begins in its reintroduction of such an iconic character…basically, it looks filthy.
Also worth noting is that not one teaser trailer has been released, but two. Both look exactly the same, but feature voiceovers from two different characters: one being Superman’s adoptive father Jonathan Kent (played by Kevin Costner), the other his biological father Jor-El (played by Russell Crowe). Mitch Lewis, from Nova’s Get Into Geek is going geek-tastic over this: “anyone who knows anything about Superman knows his road to super-heroism had a lot to do with the death of his human father Jonathan Kent. A tragedy that in some way brought him closer to his true father Jor-El – a chain reaction that turned a simple Clark Kent into Superman. The idea to voice the teaser trailers, each with a message from both fathers, is (hopefully) an indication of how they’re treating the character. Effects aside, we need a story more satisfying than we got in Superman Returns”.
Starring Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and co-starring Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Michael Shannon (General Zod) and Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Man Of Steel is due in Australian cinemas June 13, 2013.
