What would you do if your girlfriend got down on bended knee and pulled out a Bunnings voucher to ask you to be her husband?!
That was what Jason Bellette faced last night when his girlfriend of five years Sharon took advantage of the theory that girls are allowed to propose to guys when it’s a leap year.
Sharon knew Jason didn’t like rings so she got him a Bunnings voucher instead because “it’s his favourite place in the world”.
This morning, Sharon rang Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa to tell them how her Valentine’s Day proposal went.

She said the two of them had a romantic dinner at a restaurant and then her plan kicked in when they got back to their accommodation on the Central Coast.
“I put some red jubey lollies in a love heart on a plate and put the Bunnings voucher in the middle,” she said. “I got him to sit down and I came out onto the balcony and it was a beautiful starry night and got down on one knee.”
But Jason didn’t react like girls normally do when they realise they’re being proposed to.
“He just went just went ‘no, no no, stand up’, and I thought oh no he’s going to say no,” Sharon said.
“But then he got down on his knee and he said ‘I’ve been planning to ask you for a couple of weeks but I didn’t know the right time to do it’.
“He had a fake ring and said he wants to take me (to get an engagement ring) but didn’t want to buy the real thing.
“So we went and poured a glass of chardy and fired up the spa and had a good night!”
Sharon had first rang Fitzy and Wippa on Monday as part of their ‘have you married a bad kisser’ segment. She said Jason couldn’t breathe when they kissed so their kissing turned into “dueling swords” outside their mouths. Look away during the wedding kiss everyone!
