The new Good Charlotte album Cardiology has flopped on the American charts and Joel Madden says it’s because the album leaked a month before its release.
Cardiology entered the American Billboard chart at No. 31 when it was released two weeks ago and a week later it has plummeted to No. 125.
Joel told Hughesy and Kate on Nova 100 this morning they didn’t know how the album leaked.
“It goes to the factory place where they’re pressing it or it goes to radio people or press people and somehow it makes its way out and it crushed us," he said.
“In America, as far as chart or sales, it definitely crushed us.”
But Joel said people downloading their album for free did have its positives.
“More people have access to our record than ever and our shows are bigger than ever,” he said, adding that it was a “touchy subject” with their record label who need them to sell their music.
In Australia, Cardiology entered the charts at No. 3, then dropped to No. 14 and is now at No. 28.
