You know those people who love sport? Participate in outdoorsy activity like rock-climbing and hiking? Enter triathlons - for fun OR charity?
… I’m not one of those people.
I find it unnecessary to run (…unless being chased) and I get no pleasure in sweating in front of skinny people I don’t know.
This is how I got to size 14 and getting higher. I can, however, recite all character names and storylines of True Blood and tell you how to recover from a hangover fast… these are the skills I bring to the world.
Over the past 3 weeks though, I joined the brekkie team in the Goodlife 12 Week challenge. I figured – it’s for work, just do it… go, and pray it ends soon … But it turned out to be good. My trainer, Dave (here’s your shout out :p) gave me a diet plan that has me eating 6 times a day… including Avocado toast, cheese and ham on crackers, Caesar dressing on a salad, 3 slices of bread a day... I thought he was mad. But so far so good.. I never feel hungry because I eat all the time!
The exercise – my goliath: I discovered that classes suit me to a tee. A scheduled appointment that can go in the diary – I try and make plans with Newsreader Ange and Promotions Mel and Tangalooma Penny (a friend who I found goes to the same Goodlife gym as me… yes, she works at Tangalooma) This “buddy system” gives you someone to feel guilty to if you don’t go… it’s like giving yourself no escape clause.
I really enjoyed Sh’Bam – its 5pm on a Saturday at the Hawthorne Goodlife. It’s like you’re dancing, and there are other chubby people there too so you don’t feel like the heffa in the room.
PT Dave – he’s a good egg… he has patience with me. He told me last week he is training for a body building comp (he is one of those people as described in the first sentence). He makes me lift heavy beams, run really fast for short amounts of time and pushes me to do what can only be described as “Satan’s Exercise”… Burpees. I ache for 3 days after. This is a good thing I am told.
My goal is 10kg in 12 weeks. I have so far lost 2kg in 3weeks. Kicking goals!
So in summation: I am eating heaps, doing fun classes and Dave is doing a great job in making me ache for days.
Here’s to 7 more kilos, hopefully without doing any more burpees.
Looooooove,
Ali
