Heidi Montag has filed for legal separation from her husband Spencer Pratt, but it doesn't mean they're getting divorced.
The reality television star filed the legal paperwork at a Santa Monica courthouse today, citing irreconcilable differences for the split.
It means any earnings she makes from now on will be hers only, but that a divorce is not necessarily in the works.
Heidi apparently walked out on her The Hills hubby Spencer about a week ago, but friends have come out to say the split is a publicity scam by the fame whoring couple.
On the day of the split Heidi announced she would be starring in a new reality television show with a girlfriend in Malibu. It was later revealed the house they will live in was rented by a third party before Heidi even split from Spencer.
At the MTV Movie Awards on the weekend co-star Audrina Patridge called the couple out on their break-up, saying: "I think it's a joke. I don't believe it. They're inseparable and in love."
