Homebake Returns for 2009
It's always great when you get an email enter your inbox that warms your heart..... as was the press release we received about the fifteenth anniversary of HOMEBAKE, and who they have lined up for this year's edition of the Australian music institution!
Christmas has come early with the December 5th event looking like a cracker!!
This year's HOMEBAKE will feature the following.....
They appeared on the very first version of HOMEBAKE and were last seen gracing our stages ten years ago in 1999. Since then, their career has catapulted to incredible heights having become one of the biggest bands Australia has witnessed in many decades. With multiple platinum albums, sixteen ARIA Awards (including scoring the award for best group twice!), multiple APRA Awards including Song of the Year twice, and 5 number one ARIA chart album debuts as well as a long list of smash hit records they are truly one of Australia's most successful rock bands. They are unequivocally Brisbane's greatest musical export. They are none other than POWDERFINGER .
Having recently returned to the studio to commence recording their latest studio album with American heavyweight engineer and producer Nick DiDia (Pearl Jam, Neil Young, Rage Against The Machine) who was responsible for recording their hugely successful albums ‘Internationalist', ‘Odyssey Number 5’ and ‘Vulture Street’, POWDERFINGER have chosen to record this new album in Australia and it's expected to be out by the end of this year.
Their HOMEBAKE performance will be the band's first major (& very huge) performance since their mammoth ‘Across the Great Divide’ tour when they joined local mates Silverchair on a massively successful tour of the nation that saw them play to over 200,000 fans. Having been graced with the recent accolade of scoring two entries in Triple J's hottest 100 ever #21 and #27, POWDERFINGER join AC/DC as the only other Australian band to have two songs in the elite hundred. Like Homebake, POWDERFINGER have campaigned and championed many causes over the years and, considering the combined history and like minded intentions, we are thrilled to have POWDERFINGER grace our main stage for their first ever HOMEBAKE headlining experience. Check out www.powderfinger.com for all the in studio updates and antics!
Speaking of mega stars (and with over four million album sales worldwide to date), multi-platinum Australian rockers JET have unleashed their new single ‘She’s A Genius’ and it's already setting the airwaves on fire as a prelude to their forthcoming third album. Titled 'Shaka Rock' it's an almighty album revealing new dimensions of JET whilst retaining the raw roots of their debut 'Get Born' or the grace and melody of their last long player 'Shine On'. In the writing and recording of ‘Shaka Rock’ (which took place in Miami, Brooklyn, Austin, Sydney and Melbourne) JET worked hard to create 12 finely crafted tracks that owe as much to JET's past as to their future. The band also stepped up to the plate in the studio, working side by side as co-producers with Chris “Frenchie” Smith to ensure that ‘Shaka Rock’ would live up to their own expectations. It's with great excitement that we welcome JET to perform at HOMEBAKE which is promised to be a spectacular show on home turf. Their new album ‘Shaka Rock’ will hit shelves on August 21 locally and in the USA on August 25th.
This crew has been singled out as one of Australia's hottest live acts by press, industry insiders, and fans alike. Numerous sold-out national tours and standout festival appearances have confirmed this status. Performances in England, Canada, New Zealand, Korea, and Germany have proven they can take their sound to the far corners of the globe. They're lauded as Australia's finest hip-hop act and deservedly so! Of course we are referring to none other than Adelaide's supreme emcees the HILLTOP HOODS. Their latest release ‘State Of The Art’ debuted at one on the ARIA albums chart and was simultaneously certified gold. This follows the phenomenally successful album ‘The Hard Road’, which also debuted at Number One on the ARIA album chart and went on to become the group's second platinum certified album (the first being ‘The Calling’). After winning two ARIA Awards in 2006, five tracks from ‘The Hard Road’ earned spots in Triple J’s annual Hottest 100 and the group were awarded with the coveted J Award for 2006. Later the Hoods reworked ‘The Hard Road’ with the assistance of composer Jamie Messenger to create ‘The Hard Road Restrung’, incorporating the 31-piece Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. ‘The Hard Road Restrung’ went on to attain Gold certification and take home the 2007 ARIA Award for Best Urban Release. With these exceptional accolades, HILLTOP HOODS have not only risen to the top of Australian Hip Hop, but have cemented themselves a place at the very forefront of the Australian Music Industry and we are thrilled to have the hoods join us for our HOMEBAKE birthday celebrations.
Since we've been dividing the nation with each states most popular and iconic, there's another whom Homebake has been close by in their rise to almighty popularity and sales status. Coming from Perth, and commencing their career not long after Homebake started, they have become one of the finest exponents of pop Australia has witnessed in recent years. They are none other than ESKIMO JOE .
Having notched up a hugely successful career, they are now one of Australia's leading acts and they've recently scored a number one ARIA Chart debut for their amazing new album ‘Inshalla' which sees the band venture into new territory with a new and invigorating sound. For a band whose sound has taken giant leaps forward, from 2001's ‘Girl' to 2004's ‘A Song Is A City' and on to the four x platinum mega hit ‘Black Fingernails, Red Wine', ESKIMO JOE have stepped up to again prove why they're one of the most heralded and enduring rock bands around today. We welcome ESKIMO JOE to the stage at HOMEBAKE 2009.
And now for a very special surprise, we once again head back to another Adelaide success story. Brought to our attention earlier this decade courtesy of her spectacular vocals on the hit track 'Some Kind Of Love Song’ by dance/pop genius, Friendly, Adelaide's most enigmatic pop export SIA has become one of Australia's most beloved performers since she left our shores to the UK where she rose to prominence as a vocalist for acclaimed UK act Zero7. Gaining enormous attention in 2005, when her ballad ‘Breathe Me’ sound tracked the final moments of cult television show Six Feet Under, it’s been nothing short of a rapid rise to international and local success for SIA. Upon the 2008 release of her third solo album, ‘Some People Have Real Problems’, the video for her first single ‘Buttons’ became a viral sensation, earning a high profile endorsement from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. It went on to become YouTube’s second most watched music video of all time! In Australia, ‘Buttons’ became a huge radio smash hit. In the USA, iTunes named her album ‘Some People Have Real Problems’ the #1 Pop Album of 2008 and it reached number 26 on the US chart. SIA was invited to collaborate with Christina Aguilera who described her as “gritty and unique”, the accolades don't stop there with Katy Perry declaring she's “a beautiful artist”. Australian music fans tuned into SIA live with her first headlining sold out tour in March this year. We are thrilled and honoured to have SIA making her way back home for her first ever HOMEBAKE (& Australian festival) performance. Expect an upbeat, quirky set with an eclectic twist as SIA delivers her unique brand of soulful pop music when she takes to the stage in the Domain on December 5th.
And as Australian artists continue to conquer international markets far and wide there is one young Melbourne born, (although New York based) star right now scoring accolades from critics worldwide with the release of his incredible new album. Having devoted most of his life to a musical career, this extremely talented chap began his musical education from the age of four learning how to play the violin note perfect (by ear without actually knowing how to read music). By the age of 13 he was playing Vivaldi concertos - still without having learnt to read music notes. That was then. Having found a huge fan in Mark Ronson, a union was formed leading to collaboration with the massive internationally successful reworking of the famed The Smiths track 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before'. We refer to yet another of our most successful exports, DANIEL MERRIWEATHER. With his incredible new album, 'Love And War' recently released around the world and with a chart debut of number 2 in the UK, Daniel has worked tirelessly promoting the album performing at many events throughout the globe. Having devoted his life to this one ambition and musical labour of love, Daniel has become yet another hugely successful Australian on a world stage. In his own insightful words 'At the end of the day I didn't play the violin from the age of 4 to please the bloggers. Pointless pop culture annoys me, where a record becomes talking fodder or cool for 6 months, then that's where I choose to bow out! We are also very honoured to have DANIEL MERRIWEATHER join us at HOMEBAKE 09.
And now folks, forget the massive introduction as this man achieved a revered status long ago! And so with much respect and delight we announce the return of TIM FINN, Te Awamutu’s favourite son, founder of art/rock pioneers Split Enz and one of Australia’s most loved singer songwriters. For over 30 years Tim Finn has enjoyed a career that has produced some of this country’s most loved and celebrated songs. From ‘Six Months In A Leaky Boat’ and ‘I Hope I Never’ through to his time in Crowded House (with brother, Neil) and songs such as ‘Weather With You’ and ‘It’s Only Natural’, spread liberally throughout, this is a remarkable solo career that also produced chart toppers such as ‘Fraction Too Much Friction’ and ‘Made My Day’ With an enviable mix of critical acclaim for his albums and mainstream popularity, TIM FINN has always shrugged off any suggestion of legend or icon status…preferring to push forward with his songwriting, inspiring a new generation of artists such as Katy Steele, Andy Bull, Megan Washington and Josh Pyke in the process. TIM FINN remains a very relevant and important artist and, as with all true renaissance men, is now trying his hand at theatre (the Sydney season of his stage production Poor Boy runs until August 1) and film (currently working on an independent NZ film). You would think this would be enough for now…but we’re talking about TIM FINN here, who in October will release his first ever 2CD Anthology capturing all his career highlights along with some exciting new tracks. His performance at HOMEBAKE 2009 will be a genuine celebration and if his recent appearances are anything to go by, it will be one not to miss.
We've known them for some time and have been fans of their unique and adventurous style of electronic pop alongside the masses across Australia. Since they burst onto the local music scene with the release of their debut album ‘Dystopia’ they've toured the world to much acclaim, in fact the prestigious New York Times labelled them "Cosmically synthetic, subversively euphoric" and NME gave their ‘Into The Galaxy’ track a seven star nod. Melbourne electro rock trio MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS deliver a sound of a band exploring time and space. It's like watching new stars burn into existence, and then disappear in a single flash. It's the sound of a black hole imploding under the weight of a sweat soaked, heaving dance floor. They've been hard at work recording the follow up to 'Dystopia' which will be preceded by a brand new single due for release soon. They'll offer an even more dynamic and energetic experience as they return to the HOMEBAKE fold this year! Each year, Homebake brings an element of surprise to it's line-up with the addition of surprise reformations of iconic bands not having performed for many years. Especially for our fifteenth anniversary celebrations, we have coerced two of our favourites from days gone by to grace our stages one more time. For those musical aficionados and Homebake fans, we are proud to present…
Before Jet and Wolfmother, there was one rock band that paved the way for many (including the aforementioned mega stars). Having formed in the industrial city of Wollongong in the late 80's, they were at the forefront of Australia's grunge rock movement, eventually scoring the guest spot to Nirvana's only Australian tour. They are know as TUMBLEWEED and they were massive in their hey day. Originally releasing cult records via the indie Waterfront label, TUMBLEWEED went on to sign to Polydor Australia (and Atlantic worldwide) releasing a spate of hugely successful singles, EP's and three albums all cementing their status into the mainstream charts with their massive psychedelic rock guitar sounds. For this incredibly special reformation, HOMEBAKE proudly presents TUMBLEWEED as they were (and as they appeared when Homebake first began). Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome to our fifteenth celebrations the original line-up of TUMBLEWEED starring lead singer Richard "Richie" Lewis, bassist Jason Curley, guitarists Lenny Curley and Paul Hausmeister, and drummer Steve O'Brien.
As we continue to reminisce and present those very special reformations treats, we are equally proud to present yet another critically lauded act whom were adored by their fans and critics alike - as well as being well ahead of their time during their hey day. Throughout the 90’s this band were seriously acclaimed within the alternative music scene. Renowned for their sublime live shows incorporating incredible visuals the innovative UNDERGROUND LOVERS proved to be a premier force bridging Australian music from the traditional drums and guitar rock of the past to the technology and electronic influenced music of the late 80s and beyond. It all started as the musical expression of Glenn Bennie (guitar) and Vincent Giarrusso (vocals, keyboards and guitar), and within the space of ten years and six albums ended up that way again. In late 1989 the band was formed when they extended their imagination and added the serene vocals of Philippa Nihill. The UNDERGROUND LOVERS played their first gig in Melbourne in May 1990. Two gigs later they recorded their independently distributed debut album. Their second album, the amazing 'Leaves Me Blind' was released in England even before Australia, after the head of England's cult label 4AD happened to be in Australia, heard the finished record, and offered the group a deal on 4AD 's sister label Guernica. 4AD's spotlight led to strong sales on import in the US. The Americans assumed the band was British. The British thought the UNDERGROUND LOVERS were in tune with the burgeoning Manchester 'scene'. The band's third album 'Dream It Down' became their mainstream label debut and after that various band members pursued other projects and interests. The UNDERGROUND LOVERS played their last shows supporting New Order during their Australian tour in January 2002. It is with great pleasure we announce a return to HOMEBAKE's stage from this unique Australian band in their original line-up coinciding with the digital re-release of their classic albums ‘Rushall Station’, ‘Ways To Burn’ and ‘Cold Feeling’ on August 22 through Rubber Records.
Hailing from the Central Coast of New South Wales this young three-piece known as SHORT STACK have certainly grabbed the attention of the Australian music scene. Over the last 18 months, the band has tapped into the power of the internet to showcase their musical abilities to astounding effect. SHORT STACK T.V. launched in July 2007 and showing self-filmed episodes of the band's life on YouTube proved to be a huge winner with the internet generation. They've clocked up over four million plays on MySpace with over one million plays of their second single ‘Princess’ alone. They're Australia's biggest You Tube band and last year they took out the Oz artist of the year award with music station Channel [V]. They've opened for prestigious international acts such as Simple Plan and Good Charlotte and are about to embark on their own major tour. Their single ‘Princess’ debuted at number 11 on the ARIA singles chart and with the follow up single ‘Sway Baby Sway’ out now followed by their album ‘Stack Is The New Black’ due for release in August these guys will be the talk of your town. Their music is a blend of many genres, including punk, glam, and indie, their lyrics are honest, witty, and tongue in cheek all stitched together with teenage confessions. SHORT STACK makes their debut performance at HOMEBAKE 09 and we are excited!
And the stars keep coming. Her highly acclaimed debut album ‘The Overture and The Underscore’ released in 2004 received four ARIA nominations and her last album ‘What The Sea Wants, The Sea Will Have’ released in 2006 was nominated for the prestigious J Award and the Australian Music prize as well as being nominated for Best Female Artist, she took out the coveted Best Pop Release at the 2007 ARIA awards. As one of Australia's most respected songwriters, SARAH BLASKO returns with sublime sounds from her stunning new album ‘As Day Follows Night’ out now. ‘All I Want’ the ethereal first single from her much anticipated third album, introduced us to yet another stunningly beautiful work of art from this exceptional young Australian artist. Recorded in Stockholm with Bjorn Yttling (Peter Bjorn and John), the album is garnering rave reviews country wide and it's number 5 national ARIA chart debut. SARAH BLASKO is one of Australia's most unique and impressive performers and her endearing live shows have always been uniquely mesmerizing. We welcome Sarah to the HOMEBAKE stage for special 15th anniversary birthday celebrations in 2009!
Originally from Melbourne although now based in the USA, this young five piece progressive rock outfit have recently released their highly anticipated debut long player ‘First Temple’. With the average age of this band being just 21 years, CLOSURE IN MOSCOW, display a faith and commitment to their craft that far surpasses many of their musical peers. Their dedication and self belief is evident as they independently funded their recording, by taking on numerous jobs and selling their own cars to be able to work with U.S producer and engineer Kris Crummett (Dance Gavin Dance, Emorosa & many more). Recorded at Interlace studios in Portland Oregon USA with Kris they’re currently making their mark in the USA as they conduct a long run of impressive dates. We look forward to CLOSURE IN MOSCOW making their way back home to Australia, for their debut HOMEBAKE performance this year.
He's a best mate of Homebake star Daniel Merriweather and recently released a debut album ‘Talk With Force’. PHRASE ushered in a new era for Australian Hip-Hop with his raw subject matter and unrivalled sonic foundations courtesy of the Crooked Eye production team (J-Skub, Daniel Merriweather & PHRASE). The breakthrough single from the album entitled ‘Hold On’ solidified PHRASE’s position at the fore-front of the Australian Hip-Hop movement. 2006/2007 saw him perform almost 100 live shows across the country, touring and performing with artists like Snoop Dogg, Bliss N Eso, Mobb Deep, Pegz, Method Man & Redman, Rahzel, Scribe, Mark Ronson, and DJ Premier. He’s achieved a lot in this short two year period – from being a young rapper with a hope and a dream to being both an ARIA and APRA award nominee and later taking out two awards at the 2007 Urban Music Awards. Featuring collaborations with an Australian who's who of musicians including Kram (Spiderbait), Ian Kenny (Karnivool), Wendy Matthews, Daniel Merriweather, Bliss’N’Eso, Harry Angus (Cat Empire/Jackson Jackson) and numerous session muso’s from Melbourne’s magnificent live scene, PHRASE’s new album ‘Clockwork’ promises to once again break the mould of what people expect to hear from an Australian Hip-Hop artist. Don't miss PHRASE when he takes to the stage at HOMEBAKE’s 15th anniversary!
Album Artist, Producer and Engineer TIKI TAANE has spent the last twelve years playing to the world as a captivating front man for successful New Zealand band Salmonella Dub and in the last year with his own band Tiki Live. Doubling as an audio engineer for some of the country's finest acts, Tiki has boosted shows, musical works, and recordings worldwide with his unique gift for taking music into an innovative new realm. Representing Aotearoa New Zealand, Tiki has long-cemented the following of a vast cross-section of peoples from all corners of the globe and has recently released an incredible new album, 'Flux' to critical acclaim and scored high chart positioning in his native New Zealand. With access to such a diverse fan base, it is timely that Tiki has embarked on his highly anticipated solo artist career, showcasing his talents and we welcome one of NZ’s extraordinary artists to the HOMEBAKE bill.
This Sydney based collective have been critically acclaimed since the breakthrough release of their exquisite accompaniment for the acclaimed Australian film ‘Somersault’ (2004). Late last year they completed recording their new album ‘They Blind The Stars, And The Wild Team’ a double disc recorded with Scott Coburn in Seattle which is currently sitting at number 4 on iTunes top ten alternative albums. Their new tracks portray a unique skilled ability with which DECODER RING has perfected over close to a decade for taking an instrumental track from the gentle throb of Neu!-styled Krautrock to the full rolling force of contemporary post-rock combined with the finest electronic moments. But it’s not just the film connection which evokes the cinematic description when it comes to Decoder Ring, they are thought of as cinematic because it truly is – a group which creates the sort of music that paints landscapes. Their hypnotic and catchy as all get-up new single ‘Beat The Twilight’ reveals a fitting return for the band with their trademark sound enveloped beautifully with progression. Expect an edgy yet upbeat, propulsive, technicolour set when DECODER RING take to the stage at HOMEBAKE 09.
With an ever growing cult like following these raucous garage-punksters from Melbourne have made some serious inroads since their last HOMEBAKE outing. EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING’s ‘Primary Colours’ album was nominated for Best Rock Album at the ARIA Awards in 2008, it was also nominated for Triple J’s prestigious J Award and took out best hard rock/punk album at the AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) Awards last year. In March this year the band scored the coveted Australian Music Prize for best album of the year. Currently busy working on new material you can expect an energetic set pumped full of hard hitting tunes from these chaps come December 5th!
Since they were unearthed by Triple J in 2002, they've been constantly evolving but the core of the band has always remained the brother and sister duo of Chris and Pia Colonna. HOMEBAKE 2009 welcomes the Australian hip hop rock show that is BUMBLEBEEZ to the celebrations this year. Their royally titled debut album ‘Prince Umberto & The Sister’ scored a nomination for the prestigious J award with its dizzying trip through popular music from yesterday to tomorrow. Last November, BUMBLEBEEZ main brain Chris Colonna AKA Invisible AKA Prince Umberto, with the assistance of his sister Pia AKA ViLa and no doubt a ragtag bunch of Braidwood’s best, wrote from scratch and recorded a brand new jam for every day of the month, the fruits of which were documented and made available daily for download. Expect to hear some new mashed up sounds from BUMBLEBEEZ when they deliver their amazingly energetic set comprising doo wop, garage, punk rock, hip hop, reggae, RnB, grime, acid and more at HOMEBAKE 09!
As an integral member of Australian new wave band The Boys Next Door, this Australian guitarist and songwriter received acclaim for writing their underground hit ‘Shivers’. In the early 80’s the band evolved into post-punk group The Birthday Party basing themselves in London and then Berlin (featuring ARIA hall of famers Nick Cave and Mick Harvey). His aggressive use of distortion and audio feedback was one of the distinctive elements to The Birthday Party’s assault on their audience. We are of course referring to ROWLAND S HOWARD whose long and impressionable career has tagged him a member of Australian rock royalty. With a career spanning four decades Howard was a member of a host of post punk bands including These Immortal Souls, Crime and The City Solution, and Honeymoon In Red to name a few. His distinctive style of audio feedback – laden blues guitar is highly regarded and throughout his career he collaborated with a whose who of the avant-garde music and art world including the late Nikki Sudden, Henry Rollins and multi –media artist Lydia Lunch who recorded one of Howland’s songs ‘Still Burning’ with Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore. ROLAND S HOWARD today resides in Melbourne and his live performances are somewhat of a rarity. In January this year ROWLAND S HOWARD made an appearance at Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ All Tomorrows Parties Festival in Australia to the delight of his loyal local following. It was at these shows that he presented the stunning songs from his forthcoming album ‘Pop Crimes’ in a set that encompassed everything from his hit ‘Shivers’ through to material from his acclaimed 1999 album ‘Teenage Snuff Film’. His ‘Pop Crimes’ album is scheduled for a much anticipated release in September 2009 and ROWLAND S.HOWARD will perform at HOMEBAKE 09 accompanied by long-time faithful friends Mick Harvey (who has played with Rowland for over 30 years), JP Shiloh (Hungry Ghosts) and producer Lindsay Gravina.
These larger than life musicians were drawn to each other not just from a love of music, but their light hearted and jovial outlook on life. Consisting of three MCs - Trials, Hons, and Sesta - and a DJ, Reflux, they are members of Adelaide’s Certified Wise Crew, a collective of Australia’s greatest hip hop talent that includes the Hilltop Hoods, Cross Bred Mongrels, Terra Firma, and After Hours. They’ve built an enthusiastic fan base with their extensive touring including dates with The Hilltop Hoods, Bliss N Eso, Winnie Coopers and True Live. The FUNKOARS most recent release has the cheeky title ‘The Greatest Hits’. Contrary to its title, the album was not a compilation of their best previous work, in true FUNKOARS fashion, the group declared the album of all new material, start to finish, their ultimate recordings. Expect big bass, big hooks and big wordplay when the FUNKOARS take to stage at HOMEBAKE 09.
They’ve recently been spread all over print media and on airwaves across the nation and it’s as though this music collective from Townsville have sprung out of nowhere but they’ve in fact been nurturing their art for sometime. THE MIDDLE EAST delivers some of the most sublime indie folk music you’ll ever hear. Their simply gorgeous track ‘Blood’ which is laced with the perfect sing along awe-inspiring melody has really opened up the doors for this young group. THE MIDDLE EAST will certainly engage the crowd at HOMEBAKE 09.
Coming from a traditionally trained musical background WA’s SHOCKONE bring a unique sound to the drum and bass music scene. Discovering the sound through artists like Bad Company, Konflict, and Ed Rush & Optical, it wasn’t long before Karl Thomas and Jay Burns, at the time playing in a metal band with members of Pendulum, were experimenting in the electronic music. Their electro funked out psychedelic sets have proven to be massive causing hysteria on dance floors with crowds portraying uncontrollable body movement, flailing limbs and general frenzied behaviour. SHOCKONE has proven to be a force to be reckoned with, not only in the studio, but also on stage, be sure to check them out at HOMEBAKE 09.
Canberra’s ASTON SHUFFLE has exploded onto the dance music scene. In 2007 they climbed all the way to number 1 on the ARIA charts with their worldwide hit ‘For Everyone’, which remained at the front for 5 consecutive weeks. Their remix of Pnau’s ‘Baby’ also held the coveted number 1 spot for 7 consecutive weeks, giving them two top ten singles in the chart at the same time. No Australian based super android duo has ever achieved this in ARIA music history. In 2008 they joined forces with another of dance music's dominators, Tommie Sunshine to record ‘Stomp Yo Shoes”, they then followed this up with a massive remix of the worldwide smash by Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris, and Chrome ‘Dance Wiv Me’. They have also remixed the likes of Bunny Lake, Nu Coalition, and Rhys. And they still found time to complete a mix for the internationally respected Ministry of Sound Mashed Four compilation which they did alongside UK DJ/Producer Kissy Sellout, then toured nationally to promote the CD. Once their work there was done the super duo headed to the northern hemisphere to showcase their impeccable DJ skills and forward thinking productions. 2009 has seen the release of ‘Do You Want More’ featuring Danimal Kingdom, whom also fronts Kissy Sellout’s band, and a remix for NASA’s ‘Gifted’ which features Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li. They have also remixed Grafton Primary’s ‘All Stars’. On top of all this the ASTON SHUFFLE has once again delivered a DJ mix for another massive dance compilation in the Ministry of Sound Clubbers guide to 2009 alongside the Stafford Brothers and Bass Kleph. With a reputation for being the best party starters you better be sure to get your dancing shoes on for ASTON SHUFFLE at HOMEBAKE 09.
This talented four-piece from Perth are one of the most exhilarating new young bands to hit the live circuit in sometime. They've recently completed a tour with WA’s heavy rockers Karnivool as special guests on their national sold out Sound Awake tour and with live performances focused on their debut album ‘The Parallels Amongst Ourselves’, they’ve been embraced with open arms. The most exciting thing about the SUGAR ARMY story so far is it starts now. They are a young band with world class qualities, they defy branding yet they’ve stamped their spot on the must see list of the current live music scene. A SUGAR ARMY set is an adventurous and captivating journey filled with the sonic sounds of gritty riffs intertwined with driving rhythms, topped off with inimitable vocals. Expect nothing short of infectious brilliance from SUGAR ARMY when they take to the stage at HOMEBAKE 2009!
RECORD PRODUCER is a new project for two of Melbourne’s most talented musicians whose identity remain a secret but includes a master pop craftsman and a razor sharp beat smith who’ve come together to make heavenly pop hits. Their current single ‘Good News’ follows last summer’s Triple J play listed, ‘The Way’. The charms of ‘Good News’ are not hard to hear – the old school hip hop scratching, bursts of children’s choir, a lock-solid back beat, groovy synths and hot licks. They’re a little bit hip-hop, a little bit vintage 60s lounge pop and we are delighted to have the musical enigma known as RECORD PRODUCER make their debut festival performance at HOMEBAKE.

Each and every year HOMEBAKE embraces a number of charities and causes and despite the 15th anniversary celebrations, 2009 will be no different as we welcome the wonderful (albeit not so well known) organisation HABITAT FOR HUMANITY – being a non denominational, non govt, non profit organisation devoted to building simple, decent and affordable housing for the homeless. Homes are built using volunteer labour and donated materials. HFH have built nearly 300,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1.5 million people in more than 3,000 communities with safe decent, affordable shelter since their inception over 30 years ago. It is most unlikely that these families would have been able to do so on their own otherwise and that said, its astounding to note that a new Habitat home is completed somewhere in the world every 24 minutes! Habitat seeks to help people caught in a rent-induced poverty trap. Underprivileged families chosen on the basis of need alone, purchase their own homes on no-interest mortgages with Habitat. In their own simple although effective words ‘By creating decent habitat we strengthen humanity, assembling the framework that translates into new lives and new hope, not only for those who will make a home there, but also for those whose labour and love embody the very best in people’. As we commence the many months of promotion for HOMEBAKE 09, we are proud to be aligned with Habitat For Humanity. For further information, please visit http://www.habitat.org.au
