When it came to making out with Ewan McGregor in their new movie I Love You Phillip Morris, Jim Carrey said he had to mind f*ck himself to get into character.
The rubbery faced comedian said that although “love is love”, man-on-man loving can get painful and tricky to tackle as a straight man.
“When you’re kissing another guy it can get little prickly,” he said.
“Actually, you had to put out of your mind your own sexual preference and just try to understand that you were loving another person who just happens to be a guy. It wasn’t about male or female, love is love.”
Having said that, Carrey said when he got down to it, making out with McGregor wasn’t too hard.
“I mean, look at the guy. I have to say, he is a great kisser.”
Carrey plays a jailed conman who falls in love with a fellow inmate in I Love You Phillip Morris, which has been getting early rave reviews. He said he was desperate to play Steven Russell for his blind faith in love.
“There are very few scripts that I would come across that I would pay to do and this was one of them,” he said.
“I didn’t mind taking a big salary cut. I’m here to extreme and interesting things. I liked the guy I played and I hated him. But the one thing that always stayed with me was the idea that he was relentless about love, and all of us understand that. I’m a desperate man myself.”
