Sick of surfing through the app store only to find more and more fart noise generators…I have four now.
However that’s not important anymore and now you can rest easy as the days of crappy apps are over thanks to the release of I Am T Pain. Now don’t judge this just by the title, this app will not make you install dodgy grillz in your mouth and listen to any form of T Pain music, as that would be some sort of torture app. But this little gem from the app store gives you the chance to record and auto tune your voice in any situation.
What the hell is auto-tune’ I hear you say?
Ok brief background:
Auto Tune was first founded in 1997 as a little feature sound engineers used to correct pitch on voices. Basically a singer would head into the studio, record their stuff and auto tune would fix up their voice so it sounded in key.
Cher brought this to life in a commercial music sense as her 1998 trainwreck ‘Believe’ was the first song to feature auto tune through the whole track, and it reached number 1 worldwide, reiterating the point that it makes even washed up eighty year old plastic (insert rude word here) tolerable.
As soon as the music world saw Cher being popular again, everyone jumped on auto tune thinking it would either give them a different angle to sell their tunes or save their failing careers.
And this brings us to T Pain.
T Pain was one of the first dudes in the RnB/Rap community who brought auto tune into their music and is now a part of every one of his songs. It doesn’t stop there though. Chris Brown is heavily influenced by it and Kanye West’s 2008 disaster 808’s and Heartbreak was nothing BUT auto tune. The funniest and most recent addition to the auto tune story is Jay Z releasing a song off his Blueprint 2 album called D.O.A (Death of Autotune)…in which soon after its release, auto tune remixes followed.
Auto tune History lesson over, and back to the best iPhone app ever.
Hidden deep in the App Store, this little gem costs only $3.99AUD and will last you a life time. Grab your iPhone and press record and talk, sing, rap, orgasm or mime…maybe not mime into your mic and listen to the amazing auto tuned playback.
And it doesn’t end here!
You can also download some of the most popular auto tuned tracks the world has seen like Chris Brown’s Kiss Kiss, Kanye West’s Love Lockdown and…um….there are some other popular auto tuned tracks out there I’m sure.
From here you not only have four different keys to sample your audio track in, but you can directly send it to your PC or Mac, but also email, myspace, facebook and tweet to your mates directly from the app. What more could you want out of life!
Ok, so maybe I am showing a little bit too much excitement over a small application, however if you love music and want to be a part of the phenomenon, which is dictating how tunes of the 2000’s have sounded definitely download I am T Pain right now.
And hey, if auto tune has taught us one thing, it’s that no matter how much you suck at music, you can still sell records with the help of this little app.
