What really happened with Kelly Rowland on Qantas flight QF430? Supafest artist Jay Sean was there and revealed all to Nova Top Ten’s Kerley, Michelle and Smallzy. NovaFM reports.
After chatting about the British singer-songwriter and record producer’s experiences at Sydney’s Supafest last night, Kerley, Michelle and Smallzy addressed the topic of the argument that allegedly occurred between US pop singer Kelly Rowland and Qantas cabin crew.
Jay Sean was aboard the Qantas flight QF430 from Melbourne to Sydney with Rowland. Tempers were reportedly raised about passengers using mobile phones.
Smallzy asked Sean for the real first-hand story. “Let’s talk about something that has been in the paper today. Maybe you can shed some light on it because you were there.”
Jay Sean revealed:
“We were all in business class, all six of us artists sitting there with our management. There might have been a couple of other slightly irritated business passengers who couldn’t understand why there was so many coloured people. I mean, they couldn’t… they don’t know and these are older people, they’re like 50 or 60 and they’re not into our kind of music and we can be a little loud sometimes – although we weren’t at all because we were all tired. So we all actually just wanted to sleep.”
“But the hostess was very, very rude; I mean, with the whole switching the phones off business. They don’t realise we do this every day. We’re on a plane every day of our lives.”
Sean confirmed that there was truth in reports that they were told to “Show [me] your phones... I need to see that they’re off.”
“Oh yeah, basically it exactly sparked off because me and Akon’s DJ were there and he was taking down some information of mine and wanted to put it in his Blackberry. I was just about to finish giving him my email address when she was like “Sir, you need to switch your phone off” and he was like “yeah, I will – just give me two seconds” then she said “Now!””.
Jay Sean continued.
“As soon as it came to that, I was like; I’m sorry but that would spark off anyone. I mean, there’s ways of saying things, you don’t need to be rude. You don’t ever need to be rude to anybody. So you know, we were just slightly irritated that we were being very well behaved and we were being extremely respectful but we were treated like crap basically.”
When Anderson asked if he still got the muffin, a light-hearted Sean confirmed that the food was delivered “Hesitantly.”
“Why is it like it’s a chore for them?” Sean continued. “Travelling is a stressful experience for anybody I think, and we do it every day so you know, the least we ask for is a little bit of courtesy.”
Despite the media attention surrounding the flight, it seems that the tour of Australia is going well.
“I’m enjoying myself, I’m enjoying my tour of Australia.”
It seems Aussie audiences hit the spot too.
“There hasn’t been one bad show. I’m like you guys are at a concert, enjoy yourself. You paid for it as well – bloody have a good time. Sing, dance; do whatever you want to do. Scream, just have fun man… and they really did.”
