Jessica Simpson is likely to have forked out between $100,000 and $250,000 to buy her own engagement ring because her man Eric Johnson is unemployed.
Friends say the Neil Lane ruby and diamond sparkler Simpson has been sporting this week is something ex-footballer and business school drop-out Johnson could never have afforded to purchase.
Simpson is worth an estimated $100 million, mostly thanks to her clothing and footwear lines, while her man hasn't worked for more than a year.
Sources say he did earn a bit of money playing with the NFL, but was out for multiple seasons due to injuries and is now cash-strapped.
"Jessica is worth over $100 million and her brand is bigger than ever," gossip expert Rob Shuter said.
"She has sold more shoes and apparel than records and movie tickets and this business has changed her life financially - from being a wealthy woman to being a ridiculously wealthy woman."
But despite having big bucks, Simpson is apparently reluctant to sign a pre-nup with Johnson and is said to be planning a quickie wedding within weeks.
Aware of how tabloids are pinning her and ex-husband Nick Lachey's upcoming nuptials as a "race to the altar", Simpson has reportedly roped her family into planning a Christmas or New Year wedding.
But her overprotective father Joe is understood to be fuming and won't allow his eldest daughter to wed without a pre-nup guarding her fortune.
If only Newlyweds was still on and we could tune into this brewing family feud!
