Kate’s top 5 favourite bits of the last ten years on Hughesy and Kate
As we celebrate ten years of Hughesy and Kate, we got Kate to take us through her favourite moments from a decade on Nova 100…
1.Pranks on Hughesy
KATE SAYS: “I’ve always loved playing pranks on Hughesy, they are such a thrill! One of my favourites was when I used to make avocado on toast for all of us in the morning and I thought ‘oh avocado looks a lot like wasabi’! That was fun. And then there was the time I decorated his bedroom in Collingwood colours, which was an intricate, highly sophisticated prank worthy of Ashton Kutcher I believe! It took my friend James who is a wallpaperist and decorator extraordinaire and the agreement of Hughesy’s wife Holly for us to then sneak into his house and turn his bedroom to a Collingwood shrine. That one’s yet to be surpassed!”
2.Flash Bus
KATE SAYS: “So one morning we were recounting crazy things we used to do and I remembered the time I was with a girlfriend of mine and we drove past Trevor Marmalade on Punt Rd and we got so excited that we lifted our tops up and we flashed him! It was so much fun and it was so liberating so we thought why don’t we get a bus together and do it with a group of us. I thought I might have been doing it alone but it turned out a lot of sisters wanted to do it with me and it became known as the Flash Bus. I remember we nearly killed an old man who was sticking his way along the road, I don’t think he’d ever seen anything like it before!”
3.Single Ladies dance off
KATE SAYS: “One of my favourite things ever was when Hughesy, Ash and Ed decided to take on, for some reason, three dwarves in a Single Ladies ‘dance-off’! Gosh I hope Beyonce’s seen this because she should! When Hughesy watched himself back it was quite fantastic because I don’t think he realized the way he looked or the way he danced. He seemed strangely deflated after he watched it whereas we of course were elated! Ed was amazing and Ash was beautiful.
4.Love You Forever book
KATE SAYS: “When my oldest son Louis was born in 2003 someone gave us a book called ‘Love You Forever’ and I could not read the book to him without crying. Years later it was still having the same effect on me and I defied anyone – even the stoney-hearted Hughesy – to read this story book without crying. It was beautiful… god I love crying.
5.Letters to the Editor
KATE SAYS: “Letters to the Editor has been going as long as we have and it’s always a thrill when they come in, and for some reason they are always particularly funny when they’re having a go at one of us. So we found two letters that stood out – one a few years back when I was on Dancing With The Stars where the negative points about me just kept on coming, and another delightful one pointing out some of Hughesy’s regular traits.”
