Smoking in the rain is never fun - soggy cigarettes, risk of cancer - and for Katherine Heigl it could mean a burnt tongue.
The Life As We Know It actress has swapped her dirty cigarette habit for electronic cigarettes, which emit water vapour and not nicotine.
"I know it's ridiculous but it's helping me not to actually smoke real cigarettes," she said.
"You feel like you are smoking, and you get to exhale but it's just water vapour and not nicotine. I've been doing it for six months."
Heigl has long been a heavy smoker but tried to quit when she adopted her daughter Nayleigh. She had previously tried patches, gum and prescription drugs to give up the habit.
"Smoking sucks! The one thing I would say to my kid is, 'It's not just that it's bad for you. Do you want to spend the rest of your life fighting a stupid addiction to a stupid thing that doesn't even really give you a good buzz'?"
But reports claim the electronic cigarettes contain a small amount of nicotine and may not be as good as thought since they are very unregulated.
Watch Heigl smoker her electronic cigarette on The Late Show With David Letterman.
