Ke$ha says bullying over sexuality must be stopped
Ke$ha has proclaimed the phrase "We R Who We R" in the title of her new song and says the current spate of bullying in the US needs to stop.
In Sydney on the promotional trail today, the pop upstart told NovaFM the song came out of her experience of being a misfit.
"I've been making my own clothes and dressing like a weirdo and generally acting like an a** since forever," she said. It's been like that ever since middle school. And I went to school in the South where people are more conservative. I just wrote my music and everybody else played football.
"So it's heartbeaking to see people being afraid and getting bullied over sexuality which is something personal not something you should be afraif of - we are who we are! The bullying of gay teens in America is getting out of hand."
And this is also coming from someone who still experiences similar dramas.
"I still get hatemail - I just deal with it," she continued. "Any time you get one hatemail there's probably 20 people quietly loving what you do."
