Kirsten Dunst has spoken out about her 2008 stay in rehab, confirming she was no Lindsay Lohan but instead being treated for depression.
The former Spiderman star said her stay at the Cirque Lodge - where Lohan has also been treated - put immense pressure on her family but was necessary to get back on track.
"My friends and family were put in a position where they had to defend me, and it was an awful time," she said, claiming she never had a problem with drink.
"When you're a single girl in your twenties, yeah, you go out with your friends. And sometimes you drink too much. I don't know anybody else, with any type of job, who doesn't do that."
Currently starring in All Good Things, Dunst said the movie saved her just as much as rehab.
"Katie (her character) had been torn down, and I know what it's like to lose yourself, to no longer know the difference between right and wrong," she said.
"I was ready to play something like that. I had been living life on the surface, emotionally, and I was feeling really vulnerable, so I was prepared to do anything at that point."
Her latest movie marks Dunst's return to the screen after a short hiatus, and also marks the start of a more adult movie career with her first raunchy scenes.
