KONY 2012 director detained for drunk, lewd behavior

Jason Russell, the director of KONY 2012 and co-founder of Invisible Children was detained by authorities in San Diego overnight.

According to NBC San Diego he was detained by law enforcement for allegedly performing a lewd act in public, vandalizing cars and they also stated he was "possibly under the influence of something". 

TMZ has more information (and even a video) quoting sources that say Russell was dancing in "speedo-like underwear" before stripping down. TMZ also revealed that Russell has been hospitalized under a 5150 psychiatric hold. This allows authorities to keep him in hospital for up to three days so they can assess his mental state.

Britney Spears was detained under a 5150 psychiatric hold after her infamous meltdown in 2008.

Russell's organisation, Invisible Children, released a statement following the incident.

"Jason Russell was unfortunately hospitalized yesterday suffering from exhaustion, dehydration, and malnutrition. He is now receiving medical care and is focused on getting better. The past two weeks have taken a severe emotional toll on all of us, Jason especially, and that toll manifested itself in an unfortunate incident yesterday. Jason's passion and his work have done so much to help so many, and we are devastated to see him dealing with this personal health issue. We will always love and support Jason, and we ask that you give his entire family privacy during this difficult time."
