“I wrote a record and produced it and put down all the vocals and I just felt like the record needed something else,” the 22-year-old says. “Me and Tinie have got great chemistry so I thought why not get him on the record and make it happen?”
The single he’s talking about is, of course, “Earthquake”, his smash hit with Tinie Tempah that’s heating up Australian airwaves and sitting pretty at #11 on iTunes.
“It really helped, he really helped put the record to that level for me personally,” Labrinth enthuses.
“I was going to release [the song] on my own but I just like the chemistry between me and Tinie so we decided to run it together. He heard the record, I sent it to him while he was in America and he just loved it so he decided to jump on it.”
Another famous collaborator on Electronic Earth is Emeli Sandé, who guests on the track “Beneath Your Beautiful”.
“I’ve known Emeli since about a year and a half ago, we met when she came out from Scotland and basically wanted to develop a writing career,” Labrinth explains.
“I just felt like I always remembered our sessions, I needed to get her on the record, I love her voice and got her on the album, I was quite happy about that. At the time she wasn’t as big as she is now.”
Electronic Earth is out April 6 – pre-order the album here.
