Despite his love of calling his babymama on the phone, Mel Gibson has denied he was using his mobile when he smashed his car last night.
The actor reckons he wasn't in the middle of a mad rant to former lover Oksana Grigorieva when his car left the road and hit a rocky hill.
And police claim he wasn't drunk either.
Gibson reckons he doesn't know why he crashed his 2008 Maserati into a hill in Malibu at 8.35pm yesterday, from where it had to be towed.
Police told TMZ that officers asked Gibson if he'd been on the phone before the accident, to which he said no.
They also asked if he had dozed off but he did not give a firm 'yes' or 'no'.
"Gibson just repeated several times, 'I don't know how the car left the roadway'," officer Leland Tang said.
He was apparently not hurt and helped police with their inquiries, refraining from a repeat performance of his "sugar tits" incident a few years ago.
Poor Mel,he's just trying to fit back into Hollywood life by getting into car crashes. Next he'll blame the paparazzi like every good starlet.
