A sunscreen stuff up didn't stop Gold Coast born Jesinta Campbell, 18, from scoring the crown at last night's Miss Australia contest in Sydney.
The teen, who now lives in Sydney, expected to lose after stumbling through a simple question on what could be done to raise the awareness of sun damage.
She became tongue tied and had to pause to regroup, almost crying with frustration.
"It's important to have a good skincare routine, so even when we are outdoors, we need to use sunscreen and drink lots of water," she said.
The dizzy answer didn't deter judges, including TV presenter Kylie Gillies, who sent her on to represent Australia in the Miss Universe pageant in Las Vegas on August 23.
As well as the chance to become the next Jennifer Hawkins, Jesinta scored a year's supply of Novo shoes, a Proton car, swimwear and the $30,000 crown.
"I feel so privileged to be able to represent my country overseas at an international level, it's absolutely incredible," she said after her win.
