MTV Video Music Awards 2012: The One Direction lads have big plans

The members of One Direction are pencilled in to perform alongside Alicia Keys at this year's massive MTV Video Music Awards ceremony.

Liam Payne told MTV News it would likely be one of their biggest performances yet.

"I think performing at the VMAs is such a huge occasion. I think it ranks up there with one of the best performances we'll do so far," Payne told MTV News.

"We're really looking forward to the VMAs. It's quite nerve-racking as well, because obviously there's been so many historical moments and stuff that have happened at the VMAs. Now we want to make a moment ourselves, but who knows?"

This year, 1D's hit "What Makes You beautiful" has been nominated for Best Pop Video and Best New Artist.

The award ceremony will take place in September.
