New Zealand police say there is no possibility of finding any more survivors in the Christchurch Cathedral rubble.
Superintendent Dave Cliff said 16 to 22 people were presumed to have died in the cathedral debris, hit unbelievably hard by Tuesday's earthquake.
A total of 76 people have been confirmed dead and 238 are still missing.
Mr Cliff said the emergency crews were focused on finding survivors.
"This is very much an operation around rescue, it's looking for the living.
"If we find a body but we can't recover it quickly, we will carry on."
The names of the locals that have died are expected to be released later today.
