The 19-year-old wrote before pressing the deactivate button, “The reason i don't tweet as much as i use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that i get daily goodbye twitter :)"
He continued, "My fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account , :) x"
Malik isn't the first celebrity to delete his account on the social networking site - Nicki Minaj did the same earlier this year, but came back just eight days afterwards.
Malik's five million heartbroken followers are surely only hoping that he'll do the same, with #ZaynComeBack trending on Twitter.
