Rihanna’s dad is worried she’ll end up like Whitney Houston

This time he’s worried about her childhood obsession with the late Whitney Houston.

It has been pointed out that there are a number of similarities between the singers. Both grew up in devout Christian communities, both have been involved in violent relationships and both have had their sexuality questioned.

And now there is concern regarding drug use as Rihanna was photographed with an unknown white substance last week.

The singer has also made no secret of her desire to play the late singer in a biopic about her life.

Speaking about his daughter and Whitney, Ronald said: “She used to love Whitney. Robyn would always sing along to I Will Always Love You.

“She admired Whitney because of her range, her voice, her appearance, her personality — everything. She loved Whitney so much she would be honoured to play her. I think she would accept in a heartbeat.”

But Ronald, who is a former crack addict himself, hopes his daughter doesn’t emulate her heroine too closely.

He said: “I hope she will be smart enough not to go down that path. I think she is smart enough not to.”

Rihanna’s former pastor Vibert Lowe agrees with her father, saying:  “After Robyn became a star, her life has taken a different turn. I pray for her a lot.

“I was very sorry about what happened to Whitney and I really hope it does not happen to her.”

Her former neighbour Trevor Pretty has also got involved in the discussion, saying: “Robyn’s idols are people who are unapologetic and strong. She lives life by her own terms, and that’s how she is supposed to live it.

“She’s just having fun. She is from the islands and you expect her not to like weed? Of course she likes weed. People are going to attach Robyn to Whitney. The fact is Robyn is kind of hardcore. She is going to get even more epic as time goes by. I think she can handle it.”

Blimey, anyone else want to get involved? Her former milkman? Some who served her in a restaurant?

We’ve got a feeling that Riri is not going to like everyone meddling in her life and comparing her to Whitney Houston. We certainly wouldn’t. Let the girl be for goodness sake.
