Just a few weeks ago, Sacha Baron Cohen was the producers first choice to host this year’s Oscars, they then shelved that idea pretty quickly given the uproar he caused during his Borat performances, but rather than ditching him from the show completely they kept him on as a presenter.
But yet again, that idea has been ditched too!
Apparently Cohen had a comedy sketch ready to perform during the show, with the help of fellow comedian Ben Stiller, the gist of it was to poke fun at James Cameron’s masterpiece, Avatar.
According to Vulture, Baron Cohen planned to appear onstage as a blue-skinned, female Na’vi, with Stiller translating “her” interplanetary speech. As the skit went on, though, it would become clear that Stiller wasn’t translating properly, because Cohen would grow ever more upset. At its climax, an infuriated Baron Cohen would pull open “her” evening gown to reveal that s/he was pregnant, knocked up with Cameron’s love child, and would go on to confront her baby daddy as if s/he were on Jerry Springer.
So basically the Oscars are trying to avoid infuriating the director responsible for the biggest movie of all time. Cameron isn’t known for his sense of humor and wouldn’t take well to that sort of ‘behaviour’ therefore seeing Cohen stricken from the list.
Even thought I couldn’t stand Avatar, credit where credit’s due, the guys funny, and as for James, lighten up?!
