The 5-piece pop punk band of Tonight Alive has been making a name for themselves independently for a few years grinding in Sydney's live scene. Then a demo of new material made it onto the desk of legendary producer Mark Trombino (Blink 182, Jimmy Eats World) and the crew found themselves in LA recording their new LP 'What Are You So Scared Of?'. The kids will be kicking out the jams from their new album at the Soundwave 2012 festival.
Lead singer Jenna McDougall talked busines with Nova.
NovaFM: What are three words that best describe the show you’ll put on for Aussie fans?
Jenna: Sweat, mullets and stagedives.
NovaFM: What's the last thing that made you blush?
Jenna: Meeting Michael Graves
NovaFM: What’s the first thing you’ll do when you get to Australia?
Jenna: Bask in our glorious sun!
NovaFM: Who are you looking forward to playing alongside – or meeting – at Soundwave?
Jenna: Cannot wait to see Angels and Airwaves, The Dangerous Summer, The Used and Slipknot!
NovaFM: What makes your blood boil?
Jenna: Competition in the music industry.
NovaFM: What are three fundamental things you request in your rider?
Jenna: We're not too picky but water is definitely an essential! The boys love their beer and I wouldn’t mind a chicken sandwich? [laughs] Rockstar?
NovaFM: If you have an afternoon off back home, how do you spend it?
Jenna: The standard! Writing music, grabbing coffee with Mum, walking my retriever, catching up with friends or watching Gossip Girl with my sisters (guilty pleasure)!
NovaFM: Describe your best festival memory.
Jenna: I think for us the best thing that could happen at a show is seeing people sing back! Especially when we're in countries we've never been to before. It’s like, 'how the hell?' So I’m really looking forward to playing our home country in a festival environment, the vibes are like nothing else!
NovaFM: Which Aussie city are you most excited to visit and why?
Jenna: We love our country and our favourite shows are always in Sydney and Melbourne but I’m excited to see how the crowd behaves in a festival environment in the rest of the major cities!
NovaFM: What’s your favourite iPhone app?
Jenna: Solitaire. Sad I know, but Im completely addicted! Snake follows closely behind..
NovaFM: What advice do you have for fans who plan on catching your set at Soundwave?
Jenna: Prepare yourselves [laughs]. No holding back!
NovaFM: What’s something we would never guess about you or your band?
Jenna: We have a soft spot for metal.
