On Novanation this week, Tom Findlay and Andy Cato dropped by after a massive night at the Big Day Out post party. On very little sleep and quite hung-over, the lads were true professionals promoting their tour and their new album Black Light.
Australia was lucky enough to hear the album first – and if you’re thinking it sounds a bit Empire of the Sun - then you’re right. The lads have worked with Nick Littlemore and some other names including Bryan Ferry and Will Young.
The newest addition to the UK electro outfit is Jessica Larrabee. In person, Jessica is shy and reserved but on stage, in her Thunderbird-esque costume she tears the stage apart with wicked dance moves and amazing vocals. Ok… I may have a little bit of a girl crush and was lucky enough to score a peck goodbye!
With the band’s new material being more challenging than their classics, I was a bit worried that the guys may have lost some fans but this wasn’t the case. The crowd enjoyed every minute of the gig… and so did I. So much so that I even pulled out some imaginative dance moves. Sorry to everyone who witnessed me doing the runner man to ‘Superstylin’… it just had to be done.
‘My Friend,’ ‘Song for Mutya’ and ‘Superstylin’ were clearly crowd favorites but their new tunes ‘I Won’t Kneel’ and ‘Paper Romance’ received a great reception as well. It was a very fun gig, especially if you were looking for a good ole sing-a-long and dance.
If Groove Armada knows what’s good for them, they’ll stick with Jessica Larrabee… She is a total star and will bring this dance outfit to a whole new level in 2010.
