Karl Lagerfeld wears black all the time because it helps him ignore himself and concentrate.
The Chanel designer reckons colours confuses him and makes it hard for him to design, so he sticks to his signature basic black.
“I always liked navy blue, but black is even more basic. Because when you wear black you think about nothing. With navy blue you think you are still wearing a colour, you know?" he told British Vogue.
“When you work in fashion, and you have to work with all the colours, you can’t be there in green, pink or something very fancy, because, in the end, you have the feeling that you are just a sample yourself.”
He insists that black is good for his brain, allowing him to ignore himself.
“In black you can forget about yourself. I don’t think about myself when I am looking at materials and doing fittings.”
