It was the song that caused a riff while putting together their album Cardiology, but “1979” was far too important to Good Charlotte just to throw it away.
Things really heated up in the studio between the band and their producer when they found out that “1979” wasn’t being considered for the album.
“It was the kind of situation where it got thrown by the way side and this song to me, especially was really important for the record” said Benji. “If you don’t understand this song, you don’t understand our band and he didn’t” Joel added. “This is the most important song on the record for us and thank god our record label believes in us enough to let us release a song that’s important to us as a single” he said.
The boys have spoken about how tough their family did it when they were growing up, “1979” is a dedication to the sacrifices their parents made to give them a great childhood. “Our Parents are really hard working people and people have gotten to hear the harder stories. My dad is the hardest working guy I’ve ever known and my mum is a saint” said Benji
