The US version of Undercover Boss has been a huge success for Channel Ten watching CEO’s of massive US corporations handing in their suites to go to the frontline of their business and get an insight into the workings of their companies while keeping their identity a secret.
Now it’s Australia’s turn to work alongside these corporate figures as Undercover Boss Australia premieres with our national companies under the spotlight. Episode one kicks off with Dominos Pizza CEO Don Meij getting his hands dirty and pumping out some pizza’s. The workings of the store wasn’t a real surprise for Meij as his career with the company started as a Pizza delivery boy 20 years ago and has since climbed the corporate ladder.
The biggest fear for the CEO (and the show producers) is being found out as Meij is in all of the companies training videos. To get around this what they ended up doing was chucking in a decoy before him to be trained and then if anyone started to clue onto him they pulled that person aside and played with their minds. “On the odd occasion they would put them [Domino’s staff members] under confidentially and take them out of the store” says the Undercover Boss.
As a whole there wasn’t any one person that Meij was unhappy with or wanted to remove from his company but there were some issues that he didn’t agree with “ There were things I saw that I wasn’t impressed with and there wasn’t anything I could do about it for 2 weeks so that was very very frustrating. One of them will appear in the program, but no… the people were really good”.
And for the record he too doesn’t like Hawaiian pizza saying “The good news is that we’re selling less and less of them every year”… Take that hot pineapple.
