Tom Slingsby the drunken sailor after Olympic gold medal
Tom Slingsby is in party mode after claiming Australia's first individual gold medal of the 2012 London Olympics.
Just hours after claiming gold in the Laser sailing event in London, Tom Slingsby speaks to Fitzy and Kate Richie (who was filling in for Wippa) on Nova FM. Slingsby was already having a few drinks, although was disappointed he could only get Fosters on tap over in London.
"We brought over some Bundy Rum so I might have a few of them later," he said. "I think it's going to be a pretty good night here."
Slingsby was a clear-cut leader going into the final stage of the Laser, and was able to race in complete control once going ahead of his main rival for the gold medal.
Slingsby has dominated world championships over many years but was shattered to finish well back in the field in the 2008 Olympics.
In 2012 he made amends though, living up to his pre-event favouritism to take home Australia's first individual Olympic gold medal of the London Games.
