Pez is in an enviable position, his breakthrough hit ‘The Festival Song’ continues to dominate summer radio playlists almost four years after its first release. His fan-favourite album track ‘Shine’ was selected as the theme song for a national youth anti-violence campaign and received widespread exposure. He has embarked on countless tours across the length and breadth of the country. And his unmistakeable vocals grace the platinum smash album Falling & Flying by label mate 360.
But where there are highs, there are also lows. With several years having passed since his debut album A Mind Of My Own was released. Pez took time out to look after his health after been diagnosed with Grave’s Disease and is now ready to re-group for the next phase of his career. Many fans were surprised when, in late 2011, Pez released a viral video (as part of the YouTube campaign Rapper Tag) that detailed his health issues in freestyle form.
In 2012, Pez is back with a vengeance, hitting the touring circuit hard, collaborating with the likes of Illy on new material, and preparing for his next album to be released. Studio sessions have already taken place with such luminaries as M-Phazes (360, Bliss N Eso), Count Bounce (TZU, Urthboy) and Matik (producer of Pez’s classic debut), as well as with a host of live musicians. A new single is also in the preparatory stages and should hit airwaves soon.
Pez’s return (under the auspices of record label Soulmate’s partnership with EMI) will build upon the huge potential of A Mind Of My Own and propel the emcee into the upper echelon of Australian hip-hop.
