Feb 11 Justin Ossher plays on the Nova Sunset Stage before the movie, “The Imaginarium”
Terry Gilliam, the director who famously puts on screen whatever occurs in his head ran at the helm of this always spectacular, complex and sometimes surreal tale. The result is an amazing film.
An acoustic solo mode Justin delivers an honest and raw performance of his narrative compositions. Currently a native of Melbourne you can catch Justin at his regular thursday spot in Fitzroy or buy the album from him or on all on-line stores including iTunes and Cd Baby.
Feb 18 Gossling play the Nova Sunset Stage before “Where the Wild Things Are”
Innovative director Spike Jonze collaborates with author Maurice Sendak to adapt this much loved (10 sentence long) book to the screen.
This is a film about childhood, cutting loose, being wild and discovering the places we go to figure out the world where we live. Oh, it’s also a children’s film.
Musically, Gossling has a tender, sweet style that is both distinctive and alluring. A characteristic of Gossling’s songwriting style includes the mixing of heart-felt lyrics, which are simple yet absorbing with graceful, memorable melodies. Her songs are penned with a ’20-something’ perspective on life, however relate across generations.
Gossling will perform with a Cellist.
Feb 24 The Polites play the Nova Sunset Stage before “The Castle”
Tell him he’s dreaming...
Despite their social status the Kerrigans absolutely love living life together in their castle. Their humble fibro is right across from the airport (handy if they ever want to fly somewhere) and is worth almost as much as when they bought it! The film is an irreverent and funny true blue film that takes on the Aussie stereotype of the battler.
It was an instant audience favourite at the 1998 Sun Dance Festival and has become one of the most loved Australian films.
Late 2008 saw The Polites in the studio to record a new EP with Scott Horscroft, the ARIA award winning producer who has worked with The Panics, Silverchair, The Presets and The Sleepy Jackson. It also sees them with a new bass player, the Alcorettes’ Brendan West, who has helped the Polites forge a fresh and energetic new live show. The forthcoming EP ‘The Polites can’t help but feel responsible’ is slated for release in the first quarter of 2010 on Love & Theft Recording Co.
