A dwarf set on fire by an AFL footy club, which was then laughed at by the boss of the league? Buckle up kids, there is a lot happening in this story.
Blake Johnston, who performs as a part of the Dwarf My Party troupe was on duty at a Mad Monday celebration last night in South Melbourne for the Saints when the incident occurred.
He was allegedly lit on fire by a player from behind.
When questioned over the incident, AFL boss Andrew Demetriou laughed it off, saying, “I think what you do is say it’s an unfortunate incident and you move on.”
Demetriou has since apologised for his reaction.
Hughesy & Kate spoke to Johnston’s Dwarf My Party colleague, Arthur Penn Serevetas, who was present on the night. He was firm in his claim that there was no humour in the incident and that reactions such as Demetriou’s did nothing to help.
“I think the guys are just making more fun,” he said. “It was a serious incident and I feel for Blake because we work together and that’s something that shouldn’t be done to anyone.”
