My Chemical Romance chat exclusively to NovaFM about their new album Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys which drops this Friday.
Three of the five band members - Gerard Way, Mikey Way and Ray Toro - discuss the band's new energy and approach, and explain some of the major differences between this delivery and their stellar 2006 album, The Black Parade.
"We were so committed to making sure everything's as good as it can be," Toro said.
"On Black Parade it was a bit torturous. We put ourselves through emotional torture to get that - but this one, I think, the energy going into the songs and writing the songs came from a different place."
Gerard said the band believed in every single song on this album, which made a huge difference. "There is a conviction to every single song. No song exists on that record to fill a gap or fulfill an objective... That record is really a wishlist of everything we always wanted to.
Toro said they experimented with a bunch of new sounds which re-energised them all. "It was all new territory for us. That related to even, the parts and the sounds we used. Everything was just fresher for us and, kind of, more exciting,” he said.
"We're so proud," Gerard added. "The only thing I'm obviously prouder of is having a daughter. But I am so proud of all of us and what we accomplished."
