Australian Idol Contestants: Where Are They Now?

Idol is back, baby!

It’s official, everyone’s fave singing competition show, Australian Idol, is returning to our screens.

Channel Seven announced the news this week that after over a decade off the air, the show will be back on TV in 2022.

To celebrate the massive news, it’s time we look back to see what some former contestants have been up to.

Sure, we know that Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian are still slaying the ARIA charts. Plus it’s common knowledge that Shannon Noll will simply never stop doing regional tours around the country.

So, what have some of the other competitors from season 1-7 been up to?

Cosima De Vito

While she was a fan favourite in season 1, Cosima dramatically had to leave the competition in third place due to nodules on her vocal cords.

After releasing two albums, performing in a solo tribute show and getting involved in a messy decade-long legal battle with her former managers, she now has a 2-year old daughter with her husband Augusto De Romanis.

Wes Carr

Wes won the sixth season of Australian Idol in 2008, and released bop after bop. Seriously, listen to Been A Long Time in case you forgot.

At the end of 2018 he self-released his fourth studio album Australiana and now goes by Wesley Dean.

Paulini Curuenavuli

After coming fourth on the first season of Idol, Paulini released a few albums, joined the Young Divas and starred in The Bodyguard musical.

Of course, Paulini also appeared on The Masked Singer last year and stated that it was her ‘comeback to Aussie TV’.

Lee Harding

Immediately after coming third on season 3 of Idol, Lee Harding released the incredible song Wasabi. He’s performed in a few cover bands since then, and came in the top 10 of The Voice Australia in 2019.

Natalie Gauci

Natalie beat Matt Corby and took the crown of Australian Idol backin 2007. Post-show she’s released a jazz album, an alternative EP and formed a short-lived dance duo called Tune In Tokyo. She’s now a fitness instructor, writes self-help books and appeared on The Voice earlier this year.

Rob Mills

As everyone knows, Rob Mills famously had a fling with Paris Hilton after competing on Australian Idol. Since then he’s had a massive musical theatre career, had a short stint on Neighbours and was the runner-up on The Masked Singer 2019.

Kate DeAraugo

After winning the show’s third season, Kate released a platinum album and was a member of The Young Divas. More recently, she was arrested in 2017 for possession of ice, a tomahawk axe and a large knife. She avoided conviction and was placed on a community corrections order.

Dean Geyer

Dean starred in Neighbours after coming third on Idol, and also joined the cast of Glee for a minor role in 2012.

He dropped a couple new songs at the start of 2020 and announced on The Morning Show in July that he’s releasing new music soon.
